Sun Lizard Solar Air Shifter -- How Does It Work?
The Sun Lizard Solar Air Shifter harnesses sunlight and convert
this free energy into electricity so you can shift warm or cool
air to different rooms in a building. This allows the temperature
to be distributed evenly, making the building more comfortable
all year round. The standard system comes with the following key
components:
- a. Photovoltaic Panel (PV) - that generates electricity for
the fans and electronic control system and
- b. Fan Box – that moves the air from one room to up to
two rooms at a time.
- c. Ducting and registers
- d. Electronic Control System
The main purpose of the system will determine the ideal locations
of the inlet and outlet vents.
Moving Warm Air in Winter
Place the inlet vent of the Air Shifter either:
- near your existing heater or
- near the northern parts of your home or building that gains
passive solar heating
- upstairs in a double story building
Place the outlet vent either:
- in a cooler southern part of the building
- in the lower ground of a double story building
This system will shift warm air to other cooler parts of the home.
The Air Shifter can be applied in a number of building designs,
for example:
|
|
|
Air Shifter on a building with
a roof cavity near a heater |
|
Air Shifter in
a double story building |
The PV panel sits on top of the roof generating solar electricity
for the fan box. The fan box sits inside the roof cavity or on
top of the roof if there is no roof cavity. Air is drawn into the
inlet or return vent at ceiling level, through the Fan Box and
out of one (standard system) or two (needs optional additional
room ducting kit) outlet vents in other rooms. You can also
take air from upstairs where it is warmer and shift it downstairs.
Moving Cool Air in Summer
Place the inlet vent of the Air Shifter either:
- near your existing cooling system / air conditioner or
- in a southern part of your building or
- in a room that is shaded from the sun
- in a cellar or under the building
Place the outlet either:
- in a warm northern part of your building
- in the upper level of a double story building
The system moves cool air from the room to other areas which are
hot. This provides ventilation and cooling that will disperse the
cool air more evenly around the building and also reduce your dependence
on mains powered cooling or air-conditioning systems.
The Air Shifter can be applied in a number of building designs,
for example:
|
|
Air Shifter on a building with
a roof cavity next to an air conditioner |
|
|
Air Shifter underneath the floor |
The PV panel sits on top of the roof generating solar electricity
for the fan box. The fan box sits inside the roof cavity, on top
of the roof or underneath the floor. In the standard system, cool
air is drawn into the inlet vent, through the Fan Box to one outlet
vent. Depending on the design, you can also take air across
from one room to another or from downstairs to upstairs.
Optional Extras
Additional Room Ducting Kit can
be purchased to add additional inlet and outlet vents to the standard
system. It is suitable where the Fan Box is situated in or on top
of a roof cavity. We recommend that the Air Shifter has a maximum
of two inlets and two outlets to maintain its efficiency and air
flow.
